Worship at Gatley URC

Worship

Sunday 10.30 – 11.30 a.m.

Our church is friendly and welcoming with a fairly relaxed atmosphere. Our worship generally has a mix of traditional and modern hymns, prayers for ourselves and others, Bible readings following the Revised Common Lectionary, and a short sermon or other presentation to help us think about what God is saying to us. Our children and young people (babies to teens) share the beginning of the service with us before moving to their own activities. On the last Sunday of the month we all share All-Age Worship together which lasts approximately 45 minutes. We celebrate Holy Communion during morning worship on the third Sunday morning including prayers for healing and wholeness, and on the first Tuesday morning of each month at 10.15 a.m.

The Church is fully accessible and there is space for pushchairs, wheelchairs and walking aids. There is an audio loop system, and large print Bibles, large and extra large print hymns are available.

Fair Trade tea, coffee and biscuits, are served in the church hall after most morning services, giving us the opportunity to socialise and meet visitors.

J Club

Children are very welcome from birth onwards. Children and young people share in the first part of our Sunday morning worship and then go to their own activities in J Club including Bible stories, prayers, crafts and games. Creche facilities can be provided if required.

Taize style Worship

Everyone is welcome at this short meditative style of worship, held jointly with St. James.

Quiet Time

“Quiet Time” is a period, usually on the first and third Thursdays of the month, between 11 a.m. and 12 noon, when the Church is open to anyone of any age to sit and listen to soothing music and to engage in quiet reflection, private prayer and meditation – a space in a busy day. You are welcome to spend as long as you wish during this time.

Baptism

The United Reformed Church offers infant and adult Baptism. Baptism (Christening) is regarded as entry into the Church and is therefore part of the regular morning worship. If parents do not wish to commit to the promises of Baptism, we also offer a service of Blessing, and one of Thanksgiving, Dedication and Blessing. Further details may be obtained from the Minister.

Weddings and Services of Blessing

If you are planning a Wedding or a Service of Blessing following a Civil Marriage, you may wish to consider holding the service in our church which is surrounded by well kept gardens. The minister would be pleased to discuss your plans with you.

Messy Church

Messy Church consists of crafts, story, music, and a short act of worship which will conclude with a light lunch together. Please visit again to find out when our next Messy Church is taking place – all ages welcome – children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.
