There has been a reformed church in Gatley since 1777, when Gatley Congregational Church was established in the home of Thomas Roscow. The first chapel in Old Hall Road was built 2 years later and the premises we now occupy in Elm Road were built between 1937 and 1964. In 1972 The Congregational Church and the Presbyterian Church came together to form The United Reformed Church, joined later by The Churches of Christ and the Congregational Union of Scotland. If you want to learn more about the United Reformed Church, then please follow the link 'About the URC' on the menu to the left. Gatley URC has a long tradition of service to the community, and other pages on this web site explain what we are doing now. There are pages detailing our Worship, Prayer and Study Groups, groups for Children and Young People, social activities and our work with other local churches in Cheadle and Gatley. We are a Fair Trade Church, serving Fair Trade tea and coffee, and selling fairly traded products on our Fair Trade Stall on the last Sunday of the month. We are a Commitment for Life Church and, through Christian Aid, are currently partnered with Jamaica. During Christian Aid Week we organize a house to house collection in partnership with St. James’ Parish Church. Our Mission Living God’s Love We believe that God loves all people, That Jesus sacrificed his life for us so that our sins are forgiven That God raised Jesus Christ to life again to assure us of eternal life and that we are guided by the Holy Spirit. We will make this known in worship, prayer and bible study, by caring for and serving one another, our community and the world. We will strive to be a beacon of hope and love to all in our community. Our vision We are a fellowship of Christian people who serve God by spreading the message of Jesus Christ through service to our community and the wider world. We are a welcoming and forward looking community. We will be a church where God is worshipped Where God is served through care for our community, the world and each other We will seek to enable people to know Jesus Christ, encourage discipleship, and put faith into action. We will be a community that responds to needs, is welcoming and supportive. Our buildings will be a place where people want to be and where they are happy to bring others. |
